Emily is one of the newer members of the SERVE team, having started in early 2017. As a Program Assistant, she strives to create an organized and efficient environment for the National Center for Homeless Education and the North Carolina Homeless Education Program.
In 2001, she earned undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Classical Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). After which, Emily discovered her love for teaching and the outdoors as an environmental educator at Haw River State Park and Timber Ridge Treatment Center for at-risk youth.
In 2005 and 2010, She worked at Gordon Law Offices in downtown Greensboro where she improved her editing, reviewing, researching, planning, and organizing skills. In 2007 she chose to attend the Master’s program in sociology at UNCG. While completing coursework, she enjoyed an assistantship at the Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships, with a focus on juvenile justice and recidivism. In 2008, She joined the I-school team at UNCG and facilitated Sociology 101 for High School Students earning college credits online.
In 2009, she took time off from the professional world to be a stay-at-home mom. She is excited to be back in the office now and to be a part of such a wonderful team at SERVE.
When she isn’t at SERVE, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their two daughters, and their sweet dog. They enjoy gardening, hiking, practicing yoga, and watching movies.
